Refer to the following chart for a prediction of your Chihuahua puppy’s growth. It uses a puppy’s current age and weight to predict their future weight.
Identifying a Chihuahua pup’s future size is important for a number of reasons; it allows owners to purchase the right size crate, bed, collar/harness, and knowing their future size will help owners make smarter decisions regarding their home and general environment.
While there’s no way to know exactly just how large a puppy will become, this chart follows the normal growth patterns of purebred Chihuahuas. The chart itself is pretty self-explanatory; the first column represents a puppy’s age, while the additional nine columns represent their corresponding weight. Simply find your puppy’s current age on the left-hand column under ‘Birth’ and scroll to the right until you find their current weight. Once you’ve located your puppy’s current age and weight, look at the bottom of the same column for their predicted weight as an adult.
Note: some of the factors which may affect a Chihuahua puppy’s growth include:
- Genetics
- Nutrition (see our post on choosing food for your Chihuahua)
- Physical activity levels
- Hormones
- Presence of worms (not always noticeable in their bowel movements)
- Overall health

Referencing your Chihuahua puppy’s current weight and age using this chart will provide a rough estimation of their future size. However, the most accurate representation of a pup’s future weight is through their parents. If you’re looking to adopt a Chihuahua pup and want to know how large they will be as an adult, ask the breeder/current owner if you can see the parents. If both the parents are large, there’s a good chance their pups will grow to a similar large size. Keep in mind that the AKC breed standard weight for a Chihuahua is under 6 pounds, which is also the top weight listed on this chart.
